McBess is a musician, illustrator and director (one half of ‘McBess & Simon’). His work, a signature mix of retro design and rock n’ roll imagery, takes inspiration from classic cartoons such as those of the Fleischer Studios, which he modernises with contemporary shapes, symbols and typography. Firmly devoted to a binary palette (eschewing colour in all instances), McBess’ drawings often present him at the centre of a surrealist landscape laden with food, records, amps, guitars and girls.
